The KARABELO – GBVF Response Programme is a joint implementation programme by the
Soul City Institute for Social Justice (SCI) and the Work Avenue Research and Development
Foundation (WARD Foundation) funded by SIOC-cdt from January 2024- December 2026.
The goal of the project is to increase access to evidence based prevention and protection
support in Gender Based Violence and Femicide Response in SIOC –cdt mining communities as
well as strengthen GBV Response with a focus on prevention, referral for care, treatment, and
protection as well as capacity building, and the enhancement of policy and practice through
evidence-based strategies to improve the wellbeing and safety of our communities. The project
will be implemented in SIOC-cdt mining communities of Limpopo and Northern Cape, South
Africa.
The WARD Foundation seeks a Strategic Information and Research Specialist To design and
implement robust research methodologies, enhance evidence-based decision-making, and
ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of GBVF interventions.
Role Purpose
The Strategic Information and Research Specialist Will be responsible for managing qualitative
and quantitative research projects and providing monitoring and evaluation support towards
improving The WARD Foundation’s Karabelo GBVF Response Programme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Key Area Functions
Programme
implementation
● Support in the project team in project design,
implementation
● Manage relationships with local partners, stakeholders, and
community members to facilitate smooth data flow,
management, and programme implementation
Research and Innovation ● Coordinate the design and roll out of baseline and endline
studies to gather initial and final data on GBVF programme
response in targeted areas. develop, test tools and
administer surveys, focus groups, and interviews to collect
qualitative and quantitative data and for routine monitoring.
● Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and secondary
data analysis to support the conceptualisation of GBVF
dynamics, compiling and synthesizing existing research,
and identifying gaps for further investigation.
● Analyze and compare baseline and endline data to measure
changes and improvements, preparing detailed reports
summarizing findings, and providing recommendations for
future actions.
Capacity building ● Provide training and support to programme staff on research
and routine monitoring methodologies and data analysis
techniques.
● Build the capacity of local multiple stakeholders in data
demand and use methodologies to improve programme
results and decision-making.
● Develop training materials and conduct workshops to
enhance monitoring, evaluation, report and learning as well
as research skills and knowledge.
Collaboration and
Communications
● Work closely with programme staff, partners, and other
multiple stakeholders to ensure programme activities and
reporting align with programme goals.
● Communicate research findings effectively through
presentations, reports, and publications.
● Participate in meetings and workshops, to share insights
and learn from others in the field.
Reporting ● Prepare comprehensive reports on research findings,
weekly, monthly, and quarterly programme progress, and
outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
● Ensure timely submission of reports to partners, and
regulatory bodies.
● Develop slide decks to present programme results and
research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Monitoring, evaluation and
learning
● Develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation
framework for the programme.
● Track and assess the effectiveness of interventions and
activities.
● Provide regular progress reports and feedback to
stakeholders on the impact of the programme.
Other support: The Strategic Information and Research Specialist Will provide additional
support as needed and requested by the SI MERL Expert and the Executive Director,
ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to the dynamic needs of the foundation's projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Knowledge
● Bachelor’s Degree In social sciences, statistics, research methods, public health, or a
related field.
● Advanced degree in research methodology, data analysis, public health, or a specialized
area is highly advantageous
● A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in research and monitoring and
evaluation, including hands-on experience with conducting statistical analysis and
developing data management tools.
Skills and Competences
● Proven experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing research studies.
● Proficiency with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R) and data management tools.
● Experience in managing research projects, including budgeting and scheduling.

Normal office environment with occasional travel to the field
Hours of Work
As per HR policy - official working hours from 8.00am to 5.0pm, Monday to Friday with one hour
lunch break.
